An excellent starting point for a classroom discussion on the nature of education! However, there can be no debate that to be a successful person in the twenty-first century takes more than academic grades. It requires a young person to discover the best they can be in multiple fields – sports, public speaking, music, the arts, leadership, design thinking, an entrepreneurial mindset, a sense of adventure, a contribution to the community.
Our students have multiple opportunities and multiple pathways to self-discovery. The range of sports facilities and specialist coaching have taken students to state or national teams for some, but also encouraged a healthy lifestyle of physical activity for everyone. The compulsory annual adventure camps teach students wilderness survival or the joys of trekking in the Himalayas. The student leadership programme creates self-confidence and the vibrant Interact club guides them to serve in the villages and communities around.
There are opportunities to hone skills through participation in the Model UN or in StartUp Challenges. Students win awards at the World Scholars Cup competitions or IB Student Conferences around the world. Assemblies and competitive events encourage excellence in spoken word poetry, design challenges and robotics. Drama, music and dance are a part of the regular curriculum but spectacular shows provide a platform for semi-professional performances.
To be at Pathways is to find yourself in ways you never thought possible.
